Claiborne Hane

Claiborne R. Hane is an Associate in Pierce Bainbridge Beck Price & Hecht LLP’s New York office. Claiborne earned his J.D. from Washington University School of Law, where he contributed to the Washington University Journal of Law and Policy, and his B.A. in Political Science from Duke University.

Prior to joining Pierce Bainbridge Beck Price & Hecht, Claiborne primarily focused on the prosecution of large-scale securities fraud class actions on behalf of institutional investors, recovering almost $600 million for shareholders of public companies.




Secured a $219 million securities fraud recovery from Genworth Financial for misleading investors about the true state of its deteriorating long-term care insurance business. This recovery is the largest securities fraud class action settlement in the Eastern District of Virginia and third largest in the Fourth Circuit.

Secured a $234 million securities fraud recovery from MF Global in connection with the company’s dramatic collapse on October 31, 2011.

Secured a $120 million securities fraud recovery from Weatherford International, Ltd., one of the largest international oil and natural gas service companies, for understating its global effective tax rate and overstating earnings per share.

Secured a $22 million securities fraud recovery from Virtus Investment Partners for the use of inflated performance history to accumulate over $2 billion in a series of mutual fund products.
